What FIFA World Cup matches are on today? Game Schedule for December 5 – NBC Connecticut

The 2022 FIFA World Cup round of 16 is halfway through.

France and England became the latest teams to qualify for the quarter-finals in Qatar on Sunday. Kylian Mbappe helped defending champions France to a 3-1 win over Poland, while England beat Senegal 3-0. Les Bleus and the Three Lions will now meet in the quarter-finals.

Two more rounds of 16 are scheduled for Monday, with the 2018 runners-up and 2022 favorites in action.

Here’s the World Cup schedule for Monday, December 5th.

japan v croatia

Monday’s first match will feature 2018 runners-up Croatia against Japan for their first World Cup group stage win.

Samurai Blue joined Morocco as Qatar’s most surprising group winners. Japan beat a pair of European heavyweights in Germany and Spain and lost to Costa Rica to move six points clear of second-placed Spain by two points. Japan advanced to the round of 16 in thrilling fashion, beating Spain 2-1 with two goals in three minutes.

Croatia, meanwhile, finished second in Group F with draws against Morocco and Belgium and a win over Canada. Croatia have now advanced to two consecutive World Cups after never reaching the knockout stages of the World Cup.

Kickoff between Croatia and Japan is scheduled for 10 am ET at the Al Janoub Stadium.

brazil v korea

After Japan take on Croatia, the title favorites will be in focus when Brazil face South Korea.

Brazil kicked off its title race by beating Serbia and Switzerland before a 1-0 loss to Cameroon to advance to the round of 16. The 2-1-0 scoreline held Brazil to a six-point draw with Switzerland, but Brazil topped Group G thanks to a goal difference advantage in the tiebreaker.

Brazil have played the last two games without Neymar, who suffered an ankle injury in the opener. South Korea won’t be shying away from the PSG superstar, though, with Neymar set to return for the last-16 tie.

Here are five things to know about Paris Saint-Germain and Brazil national team striker Neymar da Silva Santos Junior.

It was a dramatic stoppage-time goal that sent South Korea into the knockout stages. The live standings in Group H show Uruguay ahead of South Korea as South Korea draw with Portugal and Uruguay look to beat Ghana in Game 3. But Hwang Hee-chan’s 91st-minute goal gave South Korea (1-1-1) the win and equal points with Uruguay (1-1-1). South Korea finished second in Group H with a goal in the tiebreaker over Uruguay.

Brazil vs. South Korea kickoff is scheduled for 2:00 pm ET at the 974 Stadium.
