Two men killed in apparent crash near Jerusalem

Two men in their 40s were killed when they were run over in a tunnel on Route 60 near the Har Gilo settlement in Gush Etzion on Friday morning.

They were found with multiple system injuries and paramedics pronounced them dead at the scene.

Police have identified them as construction workers who may be on their way to a nearby construction site.

Police said they have launched an investigation into the incident.

Route 60 runs from Beer Sheva in the south to Nazareth in the north, mostly passing through the West Bank.

Last month, a truck collided with a car on Highway 60, seriously injuring one person and another.

A week earlier, a woman in her 30s was killed and a young girl was seriously injured when two cars and a truck collided on the same road.

According to the latest figures from the Road Safety Authority, 318 people have been killed in road accidents in Israel since the beginning of 2022, a slight decrease compared to last year.

Israeli politics outspoken

I joined The Times of Israel after years of covering U.S. and Israeli politics for Hebrew-language news outlets.

In my opinion, responsible reporting on Israeli politicians means taking a 360-degree look at what they say and do – conveying not just what happened, but what that means in the wider context of Israeli society and the region .

It’s hard to do because you can rarely take a politician at face value – you have to work extra hard to present the full context and work to overcome your own biases.

I’m proud of our work that tells the story of Israeli politics direct and comprehensive. I believe that Israel is stronger and more democratic when professional journalists do this difficult job well.

Your joining supports our work israeli community times Helps ensure that we can continue to do so.

thanks,
Tal Schneider, political reporter
