The crash happened about 5.10am on Tuesday when the semi-trailer was traveling along the Oxley Highway between Walcha and Yarras, 95 kilometers west of Port Macquarie.
When emergency services arrived, they found the only occupant of the vehicle, a man in his 30s, with a leg injury.
“It was a fairly serious accident, the truck rolled and hit a tree and the driver was trapped,” NSW Ambulance Inspector James Wood said.
“Paramedics administered pain relief and worked with SES and RFS to safely remove him from the vehicle before he was airlifted by Westpac Helicopter.”
He was taken to Tamworth Hospital in a stable condition.
“This patient is incredibly lucky to be alive. We are often called to events like this with even more tragic outcomes. Please watch our paths, especially at this time of year,” Wood said.
Traffic on the motorway is affected in both directions, and Traffic NSW is advising motorists to expect up to 30 minutes of delays and intermittent closures while vehicles resume.
Emergency services, Vehicle Transport NSW, a heavy vehicle tow truck and a crane were called to the scene.
Live Traffic NSW also warned motorists should allow extra travel time and that Google Maps may not be up-to-date with the closures.
