PHOENIX – Sprouts Farmers Market, one of the largest and fastest growing specialty retailers of fresh, natural and organic foods in the United States, today announced the launch of its Rescued Organics program at all 130 stores in California. Sprouts’ Rescued Organics program reduces food waste and supports local farmers by bringing to market less-than-perfect organic produce that would normally be discarded with defects that don’t affect quality.
Rescued organic produce may be misshapen, undersized or oversized, or slightly off in color, but has the same delicious, nutritious, and amazing qualities as other sprouts products. The program also makes organic produce more accessible, as it is offered at lower prices.
“The Sprouts Rescued Organics program is designed to help solve the 5 billion tons of edible food left on farms each year,” said Nick Konat, Sprouts President and Chief Operating Officer. “This program allows us to of customers work with us to reduce food waste by bringing home delicious, high-quality organic fruits and vegetables that may look a little different but are really good, keeping so-called ‘imperfect’ produce out of the market. “
In addition to reducing food waste, the Rescued Organics program will support Sprouts’ farmer partners. Farmers cannot sell their imperfect produce, which makes farming less profitable and more difficult to operate.of

The Rescued Organics program features 12 different varieties of local produce such as: potatoes, onions, grapefruit, lemons, oranges, pears, carrots, kiwis and bell peppers.
