During a recent snowstorm, a tragic accident claimed the life of a snowplow driver.
We’ve said it many times, driving a snowplow in the Hudson Valley is an extremely dangerous job! ! Every year we hear of serious accidents involving drivers transporting snow during a snowstorm, and unfortunately, the hazard claimed the life of a Catskill man.
According to a news release from the Greene County Sheriff’s Office, around midnight on Monday, December 12, deputies responded to a fatal incident at the Essendant Distribution Center located at 12089 Route 9W in Coxsackie, NY. When deputies arrived at the scene, they reported that a truck had collided with another truck and caught fire.

An initial investigation by the sheriff’s office indicates that a truck collided with a stationary box trailer parked in the parking lot while plowing in the wholesale distribution center’s parking lot during the weekend’s snowfall.
The van collided with the trailer, causing the van to catch fire.
Plow driver killed in Greene County
Tragically, Lamont B. Jackson, a 50-year-old snowplow driver from the Catskills, was pronounced dead at the scene, according to a news release. The Sheriff’s Office investigation is ongoing and we will update this article with any additional information when it is complete.

As winter weather becomes more frequent in the coming months, as plow trucks hit the roads of the Hudson Valley, let’s do what we can to make sure our roads are as safe as possible.
The Department of Transportation advises that any time you are near a plow, please don’t get too close behind the snowplow, and they recommend that we all stay at least 200 feet away from it. They also recommend never passing a snowplow on the right or driving through a snow cloud.
