Road accidents rise as death toll hits 12,631 and injuries jump 74,896 in 24 months – Whistler Newspaper

According to the analysis data of the road traffic report of the National Bureau of Statistics, the death toll in 36 states of the United States reached 12,631 (7.13%), and the number of injuries reached 74,896.

The period analyzed covers the third quarter of 2020 to the second quarter of 2022.

Number of road accidents in Nigeria in twenty-four months

A quarterly breakdown of the report shows that 17,022 Nigerians were involved in traffic accidents in the third quarter of 2020.

During this period, 1,236 people were killed, or 7.26% of the total, and 7,651, or 44.95%, were injured, according to the National Statistics Office.

In the fourth quarter of 2020, a total of 21,670 people were involved in traffic accidents, of which 1,818 were fatal.

This corresponds to 8.39% of the total number of road traffic accidents, during which 9,702 out of 21,670 people were injured, an injury rate of 44.77%.

In the first quarter of 2021, the number of road accidents decreased to 21,581, of which 1,668 were killed and 10,057 were injured.

This shows that of the total number of road accidents, 7.73% were fatal and 46.6% were injured.

In the second quarter of 2021, the number of accidents dropped further to 19,455.

Of these, 1,453 or 7.47% of the victims were killed and 46.3% or 9,018 were injured.

One road accident per quarter

But in the third quarter of 2021, road accidents increased to 19,764, of which 7.25% corresponded to 1,432 recorded fatal cases.

However, the number of injuries recorded during this period fell to 8,827.

Road fatalities soar to 22,590 in fourth quarter of 2021, according to the Office for National Statistics

During this period, the death toll rose to 1,652, or 7.31% of the total, and 10,171, or 45.02% of the total, were injured.

In the first quarter of 2022, the highest increase compared to the other quarters reviewed was 24,192, and the highest death rate was 1,834, a death rate of 7.58%.

The quarter recorded the highest injury rate of 10,294, which equates to 42.55%.

In the second quarter, the death toll fell to 20,781, with 1,538 fatalities and 9,146 injuries.
