PITTSBURGH (AP) — Yevgeny Malkin with Brian Rust The Pittsburgh Penguins snapped their seven-game winning streak with a 3-2 win over the New York Rangers on Tuesday night.
It was the first meeting between division rivals since the first-round playoff series last season. New York bounced back from a 3-1 series deficit to eliminate Pittsburgh and win Game 7 in overtime at home.

Malkin tied the game with a powerful goal at 14:24 of the second quarter. He beat Shestkin with a wrist shot from the top of the left circle as Pittsburgh scored in its ninth straight game. Malkin, who scored in nine straight games, tied Sergei Fedorov for the second-highest scorer by a Russian-born player in NHL history.
Last scored a second powerful goal in the last 15 seconds of the period. He deflected Pierre-Olivier Joseph’s shot behind Shesterkin to give Pittsburgh the lead.
Crosby gave the Penguins a 3-1 lead with a backhand between Shesterkin’s legs at the 8:40 mark of the third quarter. Kreid scored his second goal of the game at 1:23 to bring the Rangers one back.
