Raheem Sterling: England star leaves Qatar after intruders break into home

England football star Raheem Sterling is returning home from the World Cup in Qatar after intruders broke into his home.

Surrey Police told CNN on Monday they were investigating a burglary at the Oxshott address in Leatherhead when the resident returned from an international trip.

They contacted police just before 9pm on Saturday to report some jewelery including a watch had been stolen.

“Officers attended the address later that night and returned this morning to speak with the occupants,” a police statement said.

“It is not yet known when the property was stolen and establishing this is a key part of our investigation.

“The investigation into the full circumstances remains ongoing and officers will look at all available evidence, including any CCTV opportunities.”

Armed intruders broke into Sterling’s home while his family was inside, a source with knowledge of the matter conflictedly told CNN earlier Monday.

But Surrey Police said in a statement: “We are aware of media reports that an armed suspect was involved, however, at this time, we would like to assure our community that no witnesses have come forward to speak to this incident and there are no reports concerning the incident. threats of violence.”

The incident happened on Saturday night and Sterling was said to be “shocked” and “concerned” for the safety of the children after the burglary, the source said.

Sterling would have the opportunity to return to Qatar if the circumstances were right, the source said, but added that he was “focused on raising his family at home now” and would not give further details in a future day.

England face France in the quarter-finals of the World Cup on Saturday.

Sterling was absent from England’s 3-0 win over Senegal on Sunday, with England manager Gareth Southgate later saying the 27-year-old was dealing with “family matters”.

“I spent a lot of time with Raheem this morning,” Southgate told reporters on Sunday.

“Of course, it’s not ideal for a team before a big game,” he added, “but it’s trivial and in those moments the individual is more important than the team.”

CNN has contacted the Football Association of England for comment.

The Chelsea forward featured in England’s first two World Cup group games and scored in his side’s 6-2 win over Iran.
