Noting fixed-wing aircraft accidents, the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Transport, Tourism and Culture wishes to know the reasons behind such accidents and the remedial measures taken to prevent them.

In its report on actions taken by the government, the Standing Committee noted with satisfaction that there were no helicopter accidents in 2020 and 2021, compared to two and three accidents in 2018 and 2019, respectively. However, it noted with serious concern that fixed-wing aircraft accidents had steadily increased from six in 2018 to seven in 2019 and 2020, and nine in 2021.

“The committee wants to know the reasons for the steady increase in the number of accidents and the remedial measures taken to stop them. The committee also recommends that the root causes of such accidents be carefully investigated and that the recommendations in the investigation report be implemented without delay in order to reduce the number of accidents,” the report said say.

It would also like to know the Ministry’s comments on its earlier suggestion that the Safety Caucus could further devise a mechanism to ensure that damage from any type of accident in the transport sector is minimized through timely and efficient coordination among various ministries. and department.

In its report, the committee commended steps taken to increase pilot training facilities.

“The committee would also like to reiterate its recommendation that provision for the establishment of pilot training facilities with sufficient space within airports could be included in the DPR phase itself. In addition, the committee may be told to address deficiencies in recent audits of these schools actions taken,” the report said.

In the report, the Committee noted the steps being taken by the Airports Authority of India (AAI) to fill the existing vacancy/new post of Air Traffic Controller (ATCO) and wished to hear about the establishment of 456 additional ATCO posts.
