Car Accidents in Missouri
Every year, car accidents occur in Missouri, injuring tens of thousands of people. Many of these accidents are entirely preventable. In fact, according to the Missouri Highway Patrol, nearly 80 percent of all car accidents in our state each year are due to negligent behavior. Some of the most common causes of crashes include:
- Speeding: According to the Missouri Highway Patrol, more than 25 percent of crashes in the state in 2020 were caused by speeding. Speeding makes it harder for the driver to control the vehicle and increases the severity of a collision.
- Texting on your phone: Texting while driving is a dangerous form of distracted driving that can have serious consequences. In Missouri, texting while driving is illegal for all drivers, regardless of age.
- Crossing between traffic lanes: Crossing between traffic lanes is dangerous and could result in a serious accident. Drivers should remain in their lane at all times unless overtaking or turning.
