According to preliminary reports, when the accident happened, two buses carrying students from Yaripotam Barnu High School were on their way to Kupmu for a study tour.

The injured student is being transported to the state capital for treatment, according to officials.
Earlier on Monday, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma had instructed district administrators to ensure road safety measures were in place to reduce accidents by at least 20 percent in the coming year.
On Monday, he reviewed measures taken to enhance road safety and the status of the state government’s flagship Orunodoi project.
In Guwati, the Chief Minister met the Deputy Commissioner, Police Commissioner and other senior officials via video conference.
Sarma directed DC and SP to vigorously enforce road safety protocols, stressing the importance of stringent road safety measures to reduce the number of fatalities.
