Singer and guitarist David Suazo, a friend of mine who lived in the same Kawo district of Kano as Kamal Aboki, described the young man’s death as shocking.
“I just got a text message on my phone saying they were planning to bury me in the morning, and somehow they’re still on me.”
“If I hear about an accident while traveling to Maiduguri and returning to Kano, then we will stay in the same area.”

Funeral prayers for Kamal Aboki were held at 8 am on Tuesday morning in the Kawo area of Kano City and the body was buried at the Tishama Cemetery.

BBC Pidgin tried to contact some of Kamal’s relatives to talk about what had happened to them, but most were too shocked to take any tin.
Usman Iliyasu, Kamal’s older brother, told the BBC how Pidgin’s mum was feeling about her body as they wept, saying Monday was not good.
“E(Kamal) traveled to Maiduguri three days ago for an album release and they plan to return to Kano in an unfortunate tin happun.”
“My mum asked me to call and I called around 5pm and told us they were in the car and Kano was coming but my mum was starting to feel it.”
“Then someone asked me to speak Kanuri, I said I don’t have sabi, they came to me and asked me that I had trouble traveling from Maiduguri to Kano, I replied that I had received a message about the weather.” E Tor said while crying.
The whole family is still in shock and my brother said they really miss Kamal aboki.
“I’m gone, they’ll remember me one day, I’m their gist, I told me, if I beg you to take care of our mother and sister before you die, I told me to say goodbye, I could even be in Die before you die.”
“Kamal was one of the nicest people in the world, he was always joking around with pipo, in fact, my dad was my best friend, everyone misses Kamal.”
