The family of Jeremy Renner, who was hospitalized after a horrific snowplow accident near his home a few days ago, is encouraged and “excited” by his progress.
“We are very excited about his progress,” Kym Renner, eagle eye The star’s older sister, told PEOPLE this week. “If anyone knows Jeremy, he’s a fighter and doesn’t mess around. He’s smashing all the progressive goals. We feel very positive about the road ahead.”
Renner was clearing snow outside his Nevada home and pulling a stuck vehicle out of heavy snow on New Year’s Day when his PistenBully snow cat started rolling and was seriously injured. According to law enforcement officials, Renner climbed out of the snowcat to talk to someone, noticed it was rolling, and tried to climb back into the vehicle to stabilize the vehicle, only to be “run over” by PistenBully.
When news of his accident first reached the world, the actor was listed in a “critical but stable” condition, but by Jan. 3, he was able to reach out from his hospital bed to thank fans for their support. He has since posted multiple times on his Instagram Story, thanking hospital staff for their help, sharing happy moments with his family at the hospital and updating fans on his progress.
Reyna reportedly underwent surgery for “chest trauma” and “orthopedic injuries” following the accident last week, but no further details on his injuries or expected recovery time have been made public as of this writing. For now, knowing he’s recovering from his injury and apparently doing pretty well so far feels like enough.
Many celebrity friends and co-stars, including Hawkeye’s Hailee Steinfeld and the AvengersChris Hemsworth sent Renner messages of support in the days following his accident, and countless fans took to social media to express their well wishes. According to People, Renner has been up to date on all of them, and they’ve offered to help.
“Jeremy is making positive progress and while he’s still a long way from recovery, he’s overwhelmed by the show of love and support,” a source told PEOPLE.
We continue to wish Renner a speedy recovery.
