I-95 south of Fort Lauderdale, Florida, closed due to construction accident

A construction incident with a crane and travel lift south of Sunrise Boulevard closed southbound Interstate 95 since about 10:50 a.m. The closure on I-95 South has been moved back to Oakland Parkway.

That side of the freeway remains closed as of 3:25pm due to injuries to two men working on site, equipment involved and ensuing investigation Consider Florida’s Turnpike, US 441/State Route 7 or US 1/Federal Highway, if you’re heading south from Palm Beach County or northern Broward County.

Fort Lauderdale Fire Rescue Captain Steve Golan said a crane used to drive piling for a new bridge failed. He said this caused a stake to fall on the travel lift, causing the lift and two people on the lift to fall to the ground.

Both men were taken to Broward Health Hospital in a serious condition on trauma alert.
