HANAHAN, South Carolina (WCBD) – Hanahan, the owner of a fitness training company that has served children and adults for years, is calling on the community to help him keep his business running.
Kendrick Robinson opened The Factory Sports and Fitness Training in Hanahan a year before the coronavirus pandemic hit the U.S. to help train people for basketball, soccer and other athletics.
“It’s something God brought to me. He gave me a vision,” Robinson said. “I want a facility where young people in our community can manage themselves (better) and have a safe place where they can come and train.”
“He was always helpful. Before training, he would help the kids with their homework and things like that,” said Christian Gray, who has been in the program for four years.
Robinson said working with young people is his passion. But he said the economy has been tough.
“Our fees are really inexpensive, but if they can’t do the training, we try to make a charitable donation and give free classes,” Robinson explained.
He went on to say: “We have a bit [sic] A rough patch since Covid. We had a business plan that changed all of that, and we’ve been catching up ever since. “
Robinson decided Sunday to let the public know they might have to close next month and launched a GoFundMe campaign in hopes of getting some help.
“It’s not something I want to be public about, but it’s never enough to keep your mouth shut. God revealed this to me and He told me to make sure I keep this place open and get the help we need from the community. The response was, awesome.”
Of the $10,000 they needed, over $2,500 has come from the community.
“Having all the feedback and support from our supporters over the years and knowing we’re doing the right thing just by being transparent with the community and letting them know it’s not always easy”
