NEWS Gadkari calls for preventing 50% of road accidents by 2025

New Delhi : All must strive to reduce road accidents by 50% by the end of 2025, says Road Transport and Highway Union Minister Nitin Gadkari.

He took part in the four-hour TV show and outreach event “Sadak Suraksha Abhiyan” during road safety week, and said the country will soon introduce a law to determine the working hours of truck drivers.

During the event, actor Amitabh Bachchan, Isha Foundation founder Sadhguru and many other stakeholders discussed key issues related to road safety.

The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH) is committed to reducing road fatalities and has several initiatives across all 4Es of road safety (ie Engineering, Enforcement, Education and Emergency Care).

This year MoRTH is organizing Road Safety Week (RSW) from 11th to 17th January 2023 under ‘Swachhata Pakhwada’ to promote the cause of safer roads for all.

This week, MoRTH is running a number of events at various locations in Delhi, including Nukkad Nataks (street performances), awareness campaigns, competitions for schools and university students, road safety exhibitions with businesses, walkathons, talk shows and meetings with senior government officials Panel discussions and industry leaders.

In addition, road owning agencies such as NHAI, NHIDCL conduct special campaigns related to compliance with traffic rules and regulations, pedestrian safety, toll booth driver eye screening camps and other road works related initiatives.

State and UT traffic and police departments, NGOs, private companies and the general public across the country also actively participated in the event, workshops by conducting awareness campaigns, first responder training, ensuring strict enforcement of grassroots bylaws and other activities and advocacy programs related to road safety.
