Fort Bragg soldier killed in pedestrian accident
before they lose control of the house. Good morning. Those headline moments. But first, a big thank you for starting a brand new week with us, I’m AUDREY BIESK. I’m Jackie Paskowitz. Some things for the meteorologists to check our Monday morning forecast. Jacqueline will have a hard time getting out of bed this morning. I think about most people. Yes. We have fog there. It’s very dense at times and you can see that from our NORTH WILKESBORO camera some of the visibility numbers we’ve had so far this morning are the worst, in fact at this point we’re seeing quarter A mile or less is finding most of North Wilkesboro’s attractions. Below is visibility for a quarter mile to this point in North Wilkesboro, Lexington, you will notice some, but it won’t cause a major problem. Reedsville had the same story for the next few hours and the fog would soon be burning for us. However, if you travel south or west, you will encounter dense fog. So please plan for those extras. Greensboro 39 degrees, Winston-Salem 40 degrees, Reedsville 26 degrees. Temperatures will drop below 50 degrees in the next few hours. It’s sunny today. It’s a big change from what we’ve seen over the weekend over the past few days. It was drizzling last weekend. Finally, as we looked towards the foothills, the sun was breaking with winds of 5 to 10 mph, it was foggy at first, but this afternoon the temps dropped below 50 degrees and the sun was shining with winds of 3 to 6 mph. In the mountains, temperatures can reach the low to mid-low forties with winds of 5 to 10 miles per hour. Sunshine today and tomorrow. Then our next chance of rain will be on Wednesday. We take a look at the upcoming man who is in jail for Monday’s fatal shooting in Forsyth County, Durham. BROWN was shot earlier this month on HARTMAN PLAZA Drive and the man you see there now, SEAN VARGAS JR, 26, has been charged with his death. VICTORIA LUCAS joins us with this win. How the victim’s family reacted to the arrest. Yes, they feel the victim has been abandoned. It has been brought to justice. The sheriff’s office thanked the community for helping them and went with them in the arrest. SO, SEAN VARGAS, JUNIOR was in custody when we were arrested on December 1st, the Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office received a report that a man had been shot at a plaza in Winston-Salem . When officers arrived at the scene, they discovered that Trey Montgomery Brown had been shot multiple times. He died instantly. We got a chance to talk to Brown’s cousin, and here’s what she had to do. Justice is a difficult word to describe because it depends on the person and how they feel about the situation. for me. I’m glad he was taken off the streets because he couldn’t do it. You know that to anyone, but that’s just for me, justice is a hard word to describe in a situation like this, whenever you lose someone because there’s so much feeling in it. It’s hard to describe the feeling. VARGAS has been charged with murder and is currently in custody. IVAN FORSYTH COUNTY, VICTORIA LUCCHESI, WXII 12 NEWS WINSTON-SALEM Police also made arrests in connection with the shooting. MICHAEL AGUILAR is being held on $50,000 bond. The call about the shooting came early, just after midnight. Police found one person with a gunshot wound to the leg. He was taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Investigators believe the victim, the suspect. Aguilar faces multiple charges, including using a deadly weapon. Winston-Salem police are also investigating another shooting Saturday night on 26th Street. Officials found a shooting of a teen in the area. We are told they are expected to recover. No suspicious information has been released in this incident. Now the time is up, 604 hours in Greensboro, the police standoff is over, no one was injured and the suspect is in custody. That’s what police say, though, as they attempted to execute a search warrant at a residence on LEE’s CHAPEL ROAD over the weekend. Jimmy Lee, 27, and BENJAMIN HANEY locked themselves in the house after negotiations, officials said, saying Haney did surrender and was taken into custody Saturday night. Police are investigating Haney’s connection to a string of crimes in Greensboro over the past week. That included robbing a travel bank on North Elm Street on Friday, where the suspects were said to have taken cash after suggesting they had weapons. Police also accused Haney of robbing Wells Fargo. It was at PISGAH church on Thursday. No injuries were reported in either case. However, the police are investigating HANEY’s connection to the arson case. He is accused of setting a fire inside the store on East Coast Avenue earlier this month. Say store is total. We washed it twice. Now lawmakers on Capitol Hill are in the final week before a new Congress takes over in the new year. Democrats, in particular, are going to pass their top legislation, including government appropriations that must be passed. AMY LU came to Washington this morning with what is expected to be included in the bill. Well, some priorities include everything from health care to the military. But the question now is how much will they cost? Democrats will unveil their proposal today ahead of a Friday deadline. Each side will get most of what they want. But the most important part is that Americans will get what they need in a time of record high inflation. Democrats are pushing a new omnibus spending bill that would fund the government through most of 2023 that would first need Republican approval or risk a partial government shutdown on Saturday. Republicans see this as an opportunity to take hostages, but under normal circumstances, they wouldn’t do it. But Republican demands include cuts, not increases, in social programs and environmental spending. Another option is to pass a short-term deal by next year, when Republicans take control of the House of Representatives and negotiate a new budget. Republicans don’t bribe our fellow Democrats with special treatment, as if they were bargaining to defend America. And House lawmakers approved a 1 percent increase in military spending. But again, this will require compromise before government spending bill, IT CA
