Eagles' Jalen Hurts in doubt for Cowboys game after shoulder sprain vs. Bears

Philadelphia Eagles QB Jalen Hurts suffers shoulder sprain, CBS Sports Lead NFL Insider Jonathan Jones reported Monday afternoon. According to Jones, his status in the Eagles’ Christmas Eve game against the Dallas Cowboys was “questionable” and he could end up missing the next two games, Every philadelphia inquirer.

The injury occurred during the Hawks’ 25-20 win over the Chicago Bears in Week 15. The 24-year-old was injured late in the third quarter when Bears defensive end Trevis Gipson threw Hurts to the ground and threw all of his 6 feet. Right, shoulders out. Here’s when the injury occurred:

Hertz, who didn’t miss a single play after hitting, finished with 315 yards and two aerial interceptions on 22-for-37 for 61 yards on 17 carries and three rushing touchdowns. He was sacked just once in the win.

Not only was Hurts able to stay in the game after the hit that resulted in a sprained shoulder, but he was still able to make incredible passes, like a 68-yard pass to AJ Brown.

The Eagles are about to get the top seed in the NFC and have a first-round bye in the playoffs, which will help them if Hurts does need some time to recover. If Hertz does miss out with injury, Gardner Minshew will start. The Eagles have three games left in the regular season: next week against the Cowboys, followed by games against the New Orleans Saints and New York Giants.

This season, Hurts has played at an MVP level, helping his team to a league-best 13-1 record. In 14 games, Hertz had a 67.3 completion percentage with 3,472 passing yards, 22 touchdowns and five interceptions. The dueling threat quarterback also had 747 rushing yards and 13 rushing touchdowns.

With the Cowboys jumping from -1.5 to a 5-point favorite, speculation began to mount for Monday afternoon’s Eagles-Cowboys game in response to betting markets. Not long after, news of Hertz’s injury broke, and the Mavericks’ game was filled with uncertainty. According to Caesars Sportsbook, the line is currently Cowboys -6.
