Although cricket is not a contact sport, abnormal injuries can still occur. Sri Lankan bowler Chamika Karunarat, who represented Kandy in the Sri Lanka Premier League match between the Galle Gladiators and the Kandy Falcons on Wednesday, December 6, was horrified. Injured in the garrison incident.
In the Gladiators’ fourth inning, batsman Nuwanidu Fernando attempted to catch the ball from West Indian all-rounder Carlos Brathwaite, who was playing for the Kandy Falcons. However, he slipped straight to Karunaratne from the fall. The ball fell straight into the Sri Lankan’s mouth from a fairly high place, in what appeared to be a rather bad accident. However, like a true brave, Karunaratne held on to the catch despite the pain.

Chamika Karunaratne was seriously injured and was seen bleeding profusely from his mouth. The team doctor came to the ground and he was forced off the pitch. In a statement on Instagram, the Kandy Falcons confirmed that Karunaratne broke four teeth in the freak accident and had to undergo immediate surgery. He will return to the Kandy stage in the Lanka Super League.

Back in the game, the Galle Gladiators took 121/8 in their 20 overs as the Kandy Falcons bowlers were all around them. Carlos Brathwaite took four wickets for 14 in his four deliveries and was brilliant with handball. In a frustrating batting effort, the Gladiators’ top scorers were Movin Subasingha’s 40 off 40 and Imad Wasim’s 39 off 34.

Chasing a rather low total, the Kandy Falcons ended the chase with 5 wickets and 5 overs as Kamindu Mendis scored 44 runs for 34 balls.
