NHTSA divides these human errors further into four categories: “Recognition Errors,” “Decision Errors,” “Performance Errors,” and “Non-Performance Errors.”
“Misrecognition” was defined to include “driver inattention, internal and external distraction, and inadequate monitoring.” “Decision errors” include “driving too fast in conditions, driving too fast around a curve, wrongly assuming the actions of others, illegal maneuvering, and misjudgment of gaps or speed of others.”
“Overcompensation, poor directional control, etc.” makes up for “performance errors,” while “non-performance errors” are defined primarily as drivers falling asleep.
