In a news release from the Apple Valley Police Department, they state that on December 7, 2022 at approximately 12:12 p.m., Apple Valley Police were responding to a home assault involving a weapon when a squad was involved in a motor vehicle accident.
Two teams were traveling south on Cedar Avenue with lights and sirens activated, according to Apple Valley Police. As they were crossing County Highway 42, one of the patrol cars was struck by a pickup truck traveling eastbound on County Highway 42. hospital for further evaluation. Paramedics examined the driver of the other vehicle involved in the accident at the scene but did not remove him from the scene.
The Minnesota State Patrol is assisting with the investigation of the accident.

APPLE VALLEY, MN – Wednesday, December 7, 2022 At approximately 12:12 p.m., an Apple Valley police officer reported their vehicle at the intersection of County Road 42 (150 St W) and Cedar Avenue in Apple Valley, MN was bumped. They asked paramedics to go to the scene of the accident. Several emergency responders were dispatched to the scene, including additional Apple Valley Police, the Apple Valley Fire Department, the Minnesota Fire Department, the Dakota County Sheriff’s Department and the Minnesota State Police.
There are currently limited details on how and why the accident occurred, nor do we have any information on the extent of injuries to Apple Valley Police or the occupants of the second vehicle, as this is still a developing story. We learned from reporters at the scene What happened was a two-vehicle collision. One vehicle was a small two-door pickup truck and the other was an Apple Valley police car. Both vehicles suffered severe front-end damage as airbags deployed in the pickup truck. The vehicle was parked halfway between the south end of the intersection of Cedar Ave and County Road 42. Pickup trucks end up with their turn signals in the middle. Two eastbound right lanes on Country Road 42 are closed, southbound turn lanes and left lanes on Cedar Ave are closed, and two left-turn lanes northbound on Cedar Ave are closed.
According to reports, the accident caused traffic jams in all directions. By around 1:00 p.m., the accident was cleared from the scene.
