Accidental deaths rise in Guntur, 48 killed in less than two months - The New Indian Express

GUNTUR: Guntur District Commissioner Venugopal Reddy directed officials to examine the reasons behind road accidents and directed them to take necessary actions to prevent future accidents.

On Friday, the District Road Accident Committee meeting is held here. On this occasion, relevant departments reported that from October 21 to December 14, 52 traffic accidents occurred in the city, killing 48 people and injuring 143 people. Additional SP (Crime) P Srinivasa Rao said most of the accidents were motor vehicle accidents and as many as 20 dead were not wearing helmets.

During the period, the public security department and the road traffic department investigated and dealt with drunk driving, overloading and minor bicycle driving. The department has filed 3,910 cases in the past few months.

On the occasion, Collector directed officials to examine CCTV footage of the accident to determine the cause of the incident. He also directed state highways, R&B municipal and panchayat officials to take special measures at identified black spots and carry out road repair work in necessary areas. Road Transport Deputy Commissioner Shaik Kareem and Works Ministry officials were also present.
