When did the accident on East Lothian Road happen?
The incident happened about 7am on Sunday, December 11, when emergency services were alerted to a multi-vehicle collision on East Lothian Road, near Macmerry. Parts of the East Lothian Road A1 were closed for several hours after the crash as police repossessed vehicles. A woman, whose name, age and condition have not been released at the time, was taken immediately to the Royal Edinburgh Infirmary for treatment.
Transport for Scotland informed motorists of the incident in the area just before 8am as both roads southbound on the A1 were closed. Motorists were forced to divert and told to expect delays to normal traffic starting about 8.45am. The Met Office has also issued a yellow weather warning for possible freezing across Edinburgh until Sunday 11 December afternoon. The A1 is the longest road in the UK at 639 kilometres.
