Since the beginning of this year (as of December 3), there have been 681 traffic accidents on various roads in the region, causing 375 deaths and 581 injuries. This was revealed by data analyzed by the Integrated Road Accident Database (iRAD), an initiative of the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways.
A total of 85 people were killed in accidents related to trucks and vans, as well as accidents involving light vehicles such as cars, taxis, vans and jeeps. Nine people were killed in the bus accident and 21 in the two-wheeler accident, said Swati Gupta, iRAD regional promotion manager.
She added that speeding, reckless driving, changing lanes carelessly, using a mobile phone while driving and drinking and driving were the leading causes of death. Gupta said a maximum of 124 accidents occurred in the Sardar police area, resulting in 57 deaths.
There were 67 accidents in the area under the jurisdiction of Ascend Police Station, resulting in 42 deaths, and 61 accidents occurred in the area under the jurisdiction of the Municipal Police Station, resulting in 39 deaths.
As many as 33 people were killed in 57 accidents in Taraori police station area, 34 in 57 accidents in Madhuban police station area, 38 in 53 accidents in Gharaunda police station area, 32 in 53 accidents killed. She said the location was below the Indri police station area.
The Sector 32/33 Police Precinct had 41 incidents resulting in 13 fatalities, while the Civil Lines Police Precinct had 40 incidents resulting in 12 fatalities. As many as 22 people were killed in 32 accidents in the Butana police area.
“We are studying the places where the most accidents occurred in the past two years. After studying the deficiencies, we are fixing them with the help of different departments. So far, several deficiencies have been fixed,” said Superintendent of Police (SP) Ganga Ram Punia Say.
