Lucknow: Two people were killed and 21 others were injured in separate road accidents in Kaushambi and Bulandshar districts of Uttar Pradesh due to low visibility due to heavy fog, police said on Tuesday. The Lucknow Meteorological Department said the dense fog may persist for another two days.
A truck driver was killed and six others were injured in a multi-vehicle collision on the Bulandshahr-Aligarh road in the Arnia police station area of Bulandshahr, police said.
The driver of a pickup truck lost control of the vehicle after one of its tires burst early Tuesday morning. As a result, a bus, a slow car and some small vehicles behind a small truck collided with each other, another police superintendent (rural) Bajrang Bali Chaurasia said.
In Kaushambi, Nitish (25) was traveling with his friend on a motorcycle when their two-wheeler crashed near a stationary truck near Sayara Interchange on Prayagraj-Kanpur Road due to poor visibility. Nitish died when his friend was referred to SRN Hospital in Prayagraj in critical condition, they said.
Eight people were injured when a van rammed into a stationary truck in Sitapur due to poor visibility, while four other passengers were seriously injured in the accident near Kalli village under the Misrikh police station, police said.
In another accident, six students from a private school were injured when they collided with a milk truck due to fog near the town of Pinahat in rural Agra on Tuesday. Injured students were taken to hospital for treatment.
According to Pinahat police, the crash happened at 7:30 a.m. and the driver of the school bus was also injured. Villagers from nearby areas gathered on Pinahat-Bhadroli Road for rescue work and notified the police. A female student was transferred to Agra for better treatment. All students are reported to be safe.
