Milwaukee chefs transform McDonald's into gourmet meals at the 8th annual Unwrapped Milwaukee fundraiser

WEST ALLIS, Wis. (CBS 58) — Milwaukee’s best chefs filled bellies and helped shape the future at SHARP Literacy’s 8th annual Unwrapped Milwaukee fundraiser on Wednesday, May 18.

The theme of this year’s fundraiser tasked chefs with recreating their favorite childhood meals using only ingredients used at McDonald’s.

The chefs were able to choose from a list of ingredients used in previous or current menu items. McDonald’s donated all the ingredients for the event.

Chef Tom McGinty of the Milwaukee Athletic Club made a Salisbury Steak with Truffle Potatoes.

Chef Ashton Rotman of Rot’s Hots Food Truck made a chili-honey chicken waffle sandwich with hash browns.

Chef Brian Taborski of Saz’s Hospitality Group created a McGriddle funnel cake sundae.

Chef Amanda Wisth of Lemonyay made crispy fish sticks with lemon aioli and scallion cilantro.

Chef Brent Davis of Bacchus made braised lamb and shepherd’s pie with vegetables.

Chef Peter Snow of Wards House of Prime made sweet and sour roast chicken.

While the food brought people in the door, the purpose of Unwrapped Milwaukee is to raise money to expand children’s learning throughout Southeast Wisconsin.

SHARP Literacy had a fundraising goal of $80,000.

“We bring our program into the schools at no charge. So in order for us to continue to do that and serve more students, we need to raise more dollars,” said SHARP Literacy President and CEO Lynda Kohler.

The nonprofit organization’s mission is to sharpen students’ creativity, critical thinking and problem solving.

The same skills that the chefs were tasked with at the event.
